ABOUT KATHERINA
Katherina Sandmeier is a Greek–German soprano based in Athens, establishing herself as one of the most compelling young dramatic voices to emerge from Greece. In 2024 she made her major operatic debut as Helmwige (Die Walküre) at the Greek National Opera under Philippe Auguin, performing the role across ten performances to critical acclaim. She has also served as understudy for Judith (Duke Bluebeard's Castle), Zamfira (Aleko), and Liù (Turandot) at the GNO.
Her concert career has taken her to venues including the Herkulessaal in Munich, where she performed Mendelssohn's Lobgesang with the Garchinger Symphoniker, and the Veranstaltungsforum Fürstenfeld, where she sang Beethoven's Ah, perfido! with the Neue Philharmonie München under Joseph Bastian. She is an active recital singer and has appeared at the Megaron Athens Concert Hall, the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center, and the Basil & Elise Goulandris Foundation.
A recipient of the 2024 Maria Callas Prize from the Greek Ministry of Culture, Katherina studied at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München and the Athens Conservatoire, where she graduated summa cum laude. She works closely with the American tenor and pedagogue Michael Trimble.

Orchestral Concert / Neue Philharmonie München / Joseph Bastian
Munich, Germany
“She commands the art of conveying emotions through voice, facial expression and gesture with excellence. From the first note she generated high tension in the audience, and the orchestra was a considerate partner throughout. Her stage presence and operatic bearing were impressive…as was her precise coordination with the orchestra”

Solo Recital at the Goulandris Foundation
Athens, Greece
“In an era of vocal scarcity in Greek lyric singing, the existence of a voice as large, rich and effortless as Sandmeier's constitutes a genuine luxury. To the extent that she combines technical assurance with musicality, the result is extraordinarily exciting.”
