Biography

Kari Koskinen is a Swedish mezzo-soprano born and raised in Bjursås outside Falun, Sweden. She has in 2023 completed her final year at the Department of Opera at the Stockholm University of the Arts, where she has sung selected roles such as the Witch in Hänsel und Gretel by Engelbert Humperdinck, the title role in Carmen by George Bizet and Musetta from Ruggero Leoncavallo's La Bohème. In the Autumn of 2022 Kari performed the role Dryade at the Royal Swedish Opera as her internship training, in their new production of Ariadne auf Naxos by Richard Strauss.

Kari made her operatic debut in the summer of 2019 as the Third Lady in Mozart's Die Zauberflöte at Sweden’s Opera på Skäret summer festival, She has been awarded the prestigious Joel Berglund scholarship, and has received a scholarship from Erik Grudd's foundation and the Royal Swedish Academy of Music.

Already as a child she fell in love with the art of opera and started singing at the age of 9.

Kari has previously trained at the Conservatory of Music in Falun and Vadstena Song and Piano Academy.
