Matilda Sterby make her role debut as Micaëla in Carmen at Staatstheater Karlsruhe
Swedish soprano Matilda Sterby makes her role and house debut on the 21st January 2023 as Micaëla in Bizet’s Carmen at the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe. The Swedish soprano will also sing Mimi at the same theatre later in the Spring.
The production is directed by Immo Caraman, and Yura Yang is the conductor.
Carmen runs for several months, with performances on Jan 21, 27, Feb 4, 11, March 12, 17, April 6, 18, 27, May 20.

Matilda made her Swedish major breakthrough in the Autumn of 2022 as Marenka in Gothenburg Opera’s production of Smetana’s The Bartered Bride. She was the winner of the The Schymberg Award 2022 in Sweden. Furthermore in 2022, she appeared as Contessa in Le Nozze di Figaro for Staatsoper Hannover, and Amanda in Werle’s Tintomara for Läckö Slott in Sweden.
