Matilda Sterby sings soprano solo in Monteverdi’s Vespers at Stockholm Concert House

Soprano Matilda Sterby will sing the soprano solo in Monteverdi’s Vespers at Stockholm Concert House (Konserthuset) on the 21st October. The concert, which will be streamed on Konserthuset’s website, features the world-renowned Eric Ericson Chamber Choir and the and Wallström Baroque Ensemble, with conductor Fredrik Malmberg.

From the Stockholm Concert House website:

Eric Ericson's Chamber Choir was founded in 1945 by Eric Ericson, and has since taken a central place in Swedish and international music life. The choir's repertoire today is very broad and for generations of Swedish composers, the “Chamber Choir” has been an ideal ensemble with its typical Nordic sound and virtuosity. Internationally, Eric Ericson's Chamber Choir belongs to the absolute top tier of professional ensembles. Since 2003, Eric Ericson's Chamber Choir has worked closely with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in the Concert Hall.

At this anniversary concert, the choir takes on Claudio Monteverdi's (1567–1643) Mariavesper - Vespro della Beata Vergine. An immortal masterpiece composed in 1610, a powerful, melodic, colorful and sometimes painfully beautiful tribute to the Holy Virgin. The music crosses the bridge between the Renaissance and the Baroque with grand choruses and sections for one or more solo voices. Eric Ericson's Chamber Choir is led by its chief conductor Fredrik Malmberg. Also participating are invited soloists and the Wallström Baroque Ensemble.
