Meeta Raval sings the title role in Holst’s Savitri at Leeds Opera Festival

The soprano Meeta Raval will sing the title role in Gustav Holst’s seldom performed opera Savitri on the 27th and 28th August at the Leeds Opera Festival in England.

Savitri is a tale the libretto of which was translated by Holst from the original Sanskrit text of a tale, ‘The Book of the Forest’, from the third volume of Mahābhārata, and you can read more about the composition and the production in an article from Opera Today HERE.

The productions is directed by Emma Black, conducted by Lewis Gaston, and designed by George Leigh. The 2021 Leeds Opera Festival will be themed around the works of Gustav Holst, and the festival is put on by the Northern Opera Group.
