Biography

The Korean bass baritone Minsoo Ahn is based in Vienna, Austria.

Recent engagements include Haly in Rossini’s L’Italiana in Algeri for Norrlandsoperan in Sweden, Don Giovanni & Leporello in Mozart’s Don Giovanni at Oper in der Krypta, Vienna, and a Gala Concert (The Peaceful Unification Advisory Council) at Wiener Musikverein.

He received particularly positive reviews for his roles in the opera Edenarabseke by Wolfang Liebhart, at the international festival for modern music Wien Modern and in the opera La Bianca Notte by Beat Furrer at the modern festival Klangspuren. He also appeared in various leading roles such as Don Profondo in Rossini's Il viaggio a Reims in the concert hall of the Vienna Boys' Choir MuTh, as Nick Shadow in Stravinsky's The Rake's Progress at the Theater Akzent, as Don Alfonso in Cosi fan tutte by Mozart in the Vienna Concert Hall in 2016, as Figaro in the opera Le nozze di Figaro in the Vienna Concert Hall in 2017, as director in the opera Achtung Recording! by Wilhelm Grosz in the ORF Radio Kulturhaus in 2018. In particular, his roles as Nick Shadow, Don Alfonso and Figaro earned him the highest praise from opera critics.

In addition to his opera engagements Minsoo Ahn appeared as a guest at the Vienna Concert Hall, the Odeon Theater in Salzburg, Musikverein Graz, the Brucknerhaus in Linz and at the 4 performances in the opera projects of the Vienna Philharmonic Summer Academy. He also inspires his audience as a soloist of church music with his concerts in countless churches, such as the Peterskirche or the Minoritenkirche in Vienna. He was also the soloist in Franck's Mass A Major, op.12 with the Vienna Accord Choir.

Minsoo Ahn is a multiple winner of various competitions such as the Fidelio competition in Vienna, the 16th Osaka International Music Competition in the Opera category, also the international singing competition "Giangiacomo Guelfi" in Italy Bozen, international Johannes Brahms Competition in Pörtschach and the international singing competition "Gabriela Benackova" in the Czech Republic Iglau.
