Anton Eriksson sings Pluto in Joseph Martin Kraus’ Swedish opera Proserpin

Baritone Anton Eriksson will sing the role of Pluto in Joseph Martin Kraus’ opera Proserpin at the stunning Confidencen Rococco Theatre in Stockholm, which has its premiere on the 28th July 2022.

The opera was premiered in the very same theatre in 1781. Conducter is Olof Boman, and stage director is Sara Ekman.

From Confidencen’s website: “After 240 years, it is a great joy to finally bring back the opera Proserpin, Joseph Martin Kraus' masterpiece, to Confidencen where it was first performed in 1781 in the presence of the theater king, Gustav III. The story revolves around the goddaughter Proserpin and the amorous adventures and entanglements that follow in her wake. The opera was a success at court and Kraus' music has a beauty and power that resonates with the listener even today. The stormy passion of the young lovers, the despair of a mother who believes she has lost her daughter, suicidal thoughts as a result of unhappy love, all this is dressed in music that sounds like Mozart, Gluck, Haydn - yes, the European tradition Kraus brought with him to his new homeland. At the same time, the music has an unmistakable characteristic - Kraus' desire to create something new and fantastic in a revolutionary and troubled time.”

Performance dates: 28, 30, 31 July, 7, 9, 11, 12, 16, 17, 19, 20 August, 2022.
